A well-designed course ought to have blended modalities, but they need to work seamlessly together to be effective.

Course Design

Despite the complexity of the subject matter (and the multiple modalities I intended to use), this course was constrained by corporate-allowed hours and manager availability. I overcame these through training design—by leveraging existing knowledge and promoting self-led learning when possible.

Animated Videos

The main modality for this course is a set of videos in which I demonstrate complex scheduling scenarios using easy-to-digest animations with voiceover.

Software / Tools Used:
Adobe Creative Suite
Camtasia
Audacity

Interactive Modules

The videos above were combined with other interactive modules and delivered via our self-led app. These modules included demonstrations, animations to simply complex theories, each interspersed with knowledge checks and skill verifications.

Scheduling Activity Kit

The activity I designed allowed participants to use what they’ve learned in the self-led training to create schedules using custom graphs and strips of colored paper to mimic the visual style shown in the animations.

By using traffic data from their own stores, managers came out of this activity with functioning schedules they could practice offering to their associates.

Learning Journal

Small and easy to print and assemble, learning journals help track progress and aid in skill verification and certification.
